Our Musical Director is Liz Carter, who took over the baton in 2004.

During her time in the Women's Royal Naval Service Elizabeth began to play the cornet in the Royal Naval Volunteer Band in 1972. On leaving the WRNS, and moving to Dorset, she joined the Durnovaria Silver Band as Repiano cornet in 1978. In about 1985 she transferred to playing Flugelhorn, and this continues to be her principal instrument. While remaining a stalwart member of the Durnovaria Silver Band Liz also began playing Flugelhorn with the Lyme Regis Town Band in 2000.

Her conducting experience began three years ago, understudying the Muscial Director. To assist in this she undertook music lessons with Mr. Patrick Perry (then MD of Lyme Band) and, in 2002, gained a distinction in the ABRSM Grade 5 Theory of Music exam. She is continuing her music studies and, in 2003, began a distance learning BA(Hons) Degree course in Brass Band Studies under the auspices of Sheffield University. After 26 years with the Durnovaria Silver Band Liz feels very proud to have been made their Musical Director.
